ABOUT UNIFIED TENNIS PHILIPPINES

Unified Tennis Philippines (UTP) is a group operated by the National Lawn Tennis Association of the Philippines, Inc. It is a non-stock, non-profit, SEC-registered sports association guided by its mission of supporting the development of Philippine tennis with the goal of preparing athletes to eventually compete in the global stage and for more Filipinos to learn and pick up the sport. UTP prides itself of being an all-inclusive organization, founded and supported by the country’s passionate tennis patrons and stakeholders. UTP was founded on October 12, 2017 and is registered with the SEC.

Objectives

  • To implement a national grassroots development program that is sustainable.
       ■ Organize tournaments for all levels nationwide
       ■ Sponsor elite junior athletes in ATF, ITF and WTA Future Stars
  • To introduce the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) system to all level of players.|
  • To improve the standing of Philippine Tennis in international competitions.

Universal Tennis Rating

UTP is the official partner of Universal Tennis LLC, the company behind the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) which is being quickly adopted by the tennis world due to its accurate, real time tennis rating that is purely based on tennis results.

The Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) is a global rating system for all tennis players across age, gender, or location on the same 16.5 -point scale.

WTA Future Strars

The WTA Future Stars program is a junior development platform by the Women’s Tennis Association that aims to inspire the next generation of young girls around the world to achieve their goals through tennis competition, camps, mentorship, and education.

Launched in 2014 to assist promising tennis talents from 12 countries and regions in Asia-Pacific, the program’s reach and influence has nearly doubled in the six years since then to become a year-round development program for young athletes from 26 countries and regions.

UTP through its institutional partner Cebuana Lhuillier is the official partner of WTA in this event. In the last 5 years, Cebuana Lhuillier organizes an annual qualifying event called Cebuana Girls Tennis Challenge for the top 8 girls in the 14 and 16 categories where the champion earns the right to represent the country.

This event is so big in experience as all participants gets the chance to meet and watch the top 8 of the seasons ending WTA Finals.

Programs Implemented from 2018 until the lockdown on March 15, 2020

• Implemented more than 100 tournaments nationwide for Juniors, Professionals, Seniors, and Recreational players
• Sponsored 31 top junior players in international tournaments organized by the ITF, ATF, and WTA Future Stars. These are tournaments in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and China.
• Introduced the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) in the Philippines. The UTR Rating is a global rating system that promotes fair and competitive play across the tennis world. All players, regardless of age, gender, geography, or skill level, are rated on the same scale between 1.00 and 16.50 based on actual match results. It is used by international tennis organizations like the ITF, ATP, and WTA.
• Supported by 24 Regional OIC’s nationwide to help in the implementation of programs.
• Membership base of 1,200 active juniors, professionals, seniors, and recreational tennis players nationwide.

Programs during the Pandemic
Pivoted to online activities:

• Launched “Stay Fit, Stay Home” videos to keep athletes busy during hard lockdown. • Posted webinars in partnership with UTR on coaching and tennis techniques.
• Introduced the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) in the Philippines. The UTR Rating is a global rating system that promotes fair and competitive play across the tennis world. All players, regardless of age, gender, geography, or skill level, are rated on the same scale between 1.00 and 16.50 based on actual match results. It is used by international tennis organizations like the ITF, ATP, and WTA.
• Supported by 24 Regional OIC’s nationwide to help in the implementation of programs.
• Membership base of 1,200 active juniors, professionals, seniors, and recreational tennis players nationwide.

Programs during restart of activities in April 2022

• Implemented more than 40 tournaments from April to September among juniors, professional, seniors and recreational players nationwide. Target is to roll-out at least 50 tournaments until end of 2022.
• Launched the new selection guidelines for the players that will qualify to the 2023 UTP National Juniors Team that will participate in international tournaments organized by the ITF, ATF, and WTA Future Stars.
• Migrated to the tournament platform of UTR for greater efficiency in tracking the rating of the players.
Launched the Cebuana Lhuillier Tennis Tour – NeXt Gen Series, a new tournament format that helps players graduating from the junior ranks and college graduates to transition to professional tennis.
