Huey, partner enter Aegon Open QF
Filipino Treat Conrad Huey and Belarusian Max Miryi barged into the quarterfinals
of the 2016 Aegon Open Nottingham being held at the Nottingham Tennis Center in
England.
The third-seeded Huey and Mirnyi posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over Croatia’s Mate Pavic
and New Zealand’s Michale Venus in the opening round of the Association of Tennis
Professionals (ATP) World Tour event.
Huey and Mirnyi sealed a last-eight showdown with unheralded Oliver Marach of Austria
and Fabrice Martin of France, who needed to go through the proverbial eye of the
needle before pulling off a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) victory over Pablo Carreno Busta of
Spain and Gudo Pella of Argentina in the other first-round match.
Huey and Mirnyi are now assured of 5,800 Euros and 45 ATP ranking points for reaching
the quarterfinal stage of the tournament which offers a total prize fund of 700,000
Euros with the doubles champion getting 35,630 Euros and the runner-up taking 18,730
Euros.
Last week, Huey and Mirnyi lost to Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic and Marcel
Granollers of Spain, 3-6, 4-6, in the first round of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle,
Germany.
The two grass tournaments are part of their buildup up for the prestigious Wimbledon
Championships, the third Grand Slam event of the year beginning next week at the
All England Lawn Tennis Croquet Club in London.
Huey and Mirnyi aim to surpass their quarterfinal finish in the Australian Open
in January and third-round exploits in the French Open in May.
