Alcantara, Patrombon bags HK Futures 2 berths
Former junior standouts Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon earned spots
in the main draw of the Hong Kong Futures 2 being held at the Victoria Park Tennis
Courts.
Alcantara, a former Australian Open juniors doubles champion, trounced Jonathan
Gray of Great Britain, 6-2 6-4, then scored a 6-2, 4-6, 2-1 (ret.) win over Wishaya
Trongcharoenchaikul of Thailand.
For his part, Patrombon, a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open juniors singles,
toppled Pak Long Yeung of Hong Kong, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and Robbie Ridout of Great Britain,
7-5, 6-1.
In the main draw, Alcantara and Patrombon are in the same side of the draw and could
possible face each other in the second round.
Alcantara will be meeting Sami Reinwein of Germany in the opening round while Patrombon
battles second seed Dayne Kelly of Australia in the other first-round match of the
tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.
In doubles, Alcantara teams up with former Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Christopher
Rungkat of Indonesia while Patrombon has Yi Chu-Huan of Taiwan as partner.
In the first round, Alcantara and Rungkat will face Taiwan’s Hung Jui-Chen and Wang
Chieh-Fu, and Patrombon and Yi take on Japan’s Shintaro Imai and Arata Onozawa.
In 2015, Alcantara bagged his first ITF title by winning the doubles event with
veteran Johnny Arcilla in the ITF Manila Futures 2 held at the Philippine Columbian
Association clay courts in Paco, Manila.
