Patrombon Opens Philippine Davis Cuppers’ Bid vs. Kuwait

Former world number 9 juniors player Jeson Patrombon will open up the Cebuana Lhuillier-Philippine
Davis Cup Team’s bid against Kuwait today (Friday, March 4) at Valle Verde. Fresh
from his stint in China, Patrombon will try to give the RP Cuppers a 1-0 lead against
Kuwait when he takes on Abdulrahman Alawadhi at 3pm today (Friday, March 4). The
ever-dependable veteran Ruben Gonzales follows suit against Kuwaiti counterpart
Mohammad Ghareeb.
“This is the strongest Davis Cup team we have in recent years. I feel very confident
on our chances of taking a 2-0 lead on the first day. I strongly believe Jeson and
Ruben will deliver as they are fresh from having strong results playing in Asia
and South America respectively. The goal is to win both singles matches and finish
off the match in the doubles on Saturday with Treat Huey bannering our doubles team,
said Cebuana Lhuillier-Philippine Davis Cup Team Manager Jean Henri Lhuillier.”
The team is composed of Davis Cup veterans Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales and fast-rising
players Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon, both former standouts in the
international junior circuit. Collegiate champion coach Karl Sta. Maria will be
the non-playing team captain of the Cebuana Lhuillier-Philippine Davis Cup Team.
Philippines and Kuwait have squared off two times in Davis Cup history with Philippines
coming on top both times, 3-2 by the Johnny Arcilla-led team in 2002 and and a 5-0
sweep by Cecill Mamiit, Eric Tainio and company in 2007.
