Hot rivals Tortal, Cortes lead Cebuana Lhuillier netfest

ARCHRIVALS Rupert Ohrelle Tortal of Surigao and Brent Signmond Cortes of Lanao Norte lead the Cagayan de Oro leg of the 2016 Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis Championship series now underway today at the Nazareth Lawn tennis courts.

Then the region’s top two netters in the unisex 10-under, Tortal and Cortes resume their storied rivalry in the 12-under and 14-under brackets where they even more expect stiff opposition from much older opponents.

“We remember them (Tortal and Cortes) as the winningest kids when they’re still campaigning in the unisex 10-under. Now the competition is more challenging,” said tournament director in ITF-licensed referee Mario Inguito Craiz.

Out to make life difficult for Tortal and Cortes are the likes of Nash Agustines, Kurt Gervan Bandolis, Justin Yepis and Prince Najeeb Langitao, among others.

Cebuana Lhuillier President and Chief Executive Officer Jean Henri Lhuillier envisions today’s champions of the Mindanao series to be the future of Philippine tennis.

“We believe that they have what it takes to become our future national players,” said JHL, who is also the Chairman of the Philippine Tennis Association. (LLS)
