UNSEEDED Christopher Encarnacion shocked top seed Auden Aaron Paduganan, 7-5,6-2
in the Boys 18 under quarterfinals of the Cebuana Lhuillier-Dunlop Sports Age Group
Tennis Championship at the Citigreen Tennis Resorts.
Encarnacion,16, of the University of San Carlos Basic Education Department (USC-BED)
struggled in the first set against Paduganan but was able to recover.
“I was able to feel my rhythm and saw my opponent’s weakness, It was the first time
that I played against him,” said Encarnacion.
Encarnacion will play Clyde Mari Casino, who won against Norman Joseph Enriquex,
6-2,1-6,11-19.
Jan Godfrey Seno and Arthur Craig Pantino are also headed for a semifinal clash
in the Boys 18 under.
Seno, 15, a easily won against John Clyde Laquio, 6-0, 6-2 to arrange a semifinals
showdown against Pantino, who won against Francis Lambayan.
“They are the two rising junior tennis players in Cebu who have played in several
international tournaments. It would be exciting to see them play each other for
the first time since 2012,” said former top junior age grouper Bernardine “Nino”
Siso.
