MANILA -- Cebuana Lhuillier is once again searching for the next Filipino netters
that will don the national colors at the 2017 Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Future
Stars Finals in Singapore.
For the second straight year, Cebuana Lhuillier is holding a qualifying tournament
for girls in the 14-under and 16-under categories at the Valle Verde Country Club
in Pasig beginning Friday until Sunday.
“The winners will come face to face with the best tennis players in their respective
categories from other countries, so it is important that we keep the level of competition
high here and send only the best from our turf,” said Jean Henri, Unified Tennis
Philippines co-founder and Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO.
The WTA Future Stars qualifier will be using the same tournament format as the BNP
Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore, featuring the top eight singles and doubles players
in each age group as ranked by Unified Tennis Philippines as of August 2017.
The athletes will be divided into two groups with the best two players in each group
advancing to the crossover semifinals. The champions will automatically book seats
to represent the country in Singapore.
The WTA Future Stars 2017 Finals is on October 16 to 23 at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Alexandra Eala, last year’s champion, is set to return to defend her title in the
14-under division. She will challenged by Macie Carlos, Sydney Ezra Enriquez, Alexa
Joy Milliam, Minette April Bentillo, Amanda Gabrielle Zoleta, Juliah Asiliah Ignacio,
and Justine Hannah Maneja.
In the 16-under division, last year’s finalist, Carlyn Bless Guarde will attempt
to clinch the Singapore ticket as she faces Elizabeth Abarquez, Tracy Cheldette
Llamas, Danna Mariella Abad, Winona Cabardo, Gennifer Lysandra Pagente, Jazzelle
Madis, and Kiana Louise De Asis.
