Alcantara reaches quarterfinal in Indonesia
Filipino qualifier Francis Casey Alcantara marched into the quarterfinal round of
the Combiphar Tennis Open after posting a 6-3, 6-1 victory over seventh seed Indonesian
Sasi Kumar Mukund on Thursday at the Sultan Hotel hard court in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Alcantara, a member of the Philippine Davis Cup team, will be up against second
seed Japanese Makoto Ochi, who outclassed Taiwanese Cing-Yang Meng, 6-2, 6-2.
Top seed Korean Kim Cheong-Eui also made it to the quarterfinal after pulling off
a 6-4, 6-3 win over Indonesian wildcard Justin Barki.
Kim’s next opponent will be Japanese Shintaro Imai, who survived Hungarian Viktor
Filipenko, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.
Fourth seed Yusuke Takahashi and No. 8 Kento Takeuchi forged a Final 8 showdown
after beating their respective rivals in this event sanctioned by the International
Tennis Federation.
Takahashi defeated Australian qualifier Jake Delaney, 6-2, 6-4, while Takeuchi prevailed
over Canadian qualifier Kelsey Stevenson, 6-4, 7-5.
Renta Tokuda joined his four compatriots in the quarterfinal after hacking out a
6-3, 7-5 victory over Belgian Julien Cagnina, who ousted third seed Indonesian Christopher
Rungkat, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round.
Tokuda will meet the winner between fifth seed French Enzo Couacaud and Indonesian
David Agung Susanto.
