Huey, Mirnyi lose to Bryan brothers
Grand Slam champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of US halted Filipino Treat Huey and
Belarusian Max Mirnyi, 6-4, 7-6 (5), in the quarterfinals of the Western and Southern
Open held at the Deco Turf in Cincinnati, USA.
The second-seeded Bryan brothers, however, were beaten by fifth seeds Horia Tecau
of Romania and Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands in the semifinals, 3-6, 6-7
(5).
Tecau and Rojer then lost to eventual champions Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Marcelo
Melo of Brazil in the finals, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 6-10.
Huey and Mirnyi settled for the $32,580 consolation prize in the Association of
Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour.
They also got 180 ATP ranking points.
Dodig and Melo bagged the $258,500 top purse and 1,000 ATP points while Tecau and
Rojer received $126,550 and 600 ATP points, and Bryan siblings pocketed $63,470
and 360 ATP points.
Huey and Mirnyi are now revving up for the last Grand Slam event of the year- the
prestigious US Open scheduled on August 29 to September 11 at the US Tennis Association
Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
They are aiming to surpass their Round-of-16 finish in the 2015 edition.
